Busby AFC GG Vs Johnstone Thistle - 18/10/15
Saturdays game saw Busby play a game again in the far flung reaches of East Renfrewshire.
Neilston’s Kingston Playing fields was the venue to play against another newcomer to the Greater Glasgow league.
Johnstone Thistle were the opponents.
They recently entered from the Paisley and District league and have had some mixed results which include a good result in the Scottish cup and a poor one in the West Cup.
Busby were coming off the back of a poor display against Colqhoun and were hoping Stevie “ Sconey” Watson could emulate the “Beckham like” free kick scored in the previous fixture.
The day was warming up and the squad were assembled apart from one no show and one who turned up unannounced!
After a good warm up and a lecture from the pedantic ref the game was underway with Busby having good possession and playing some nice stuff to start off.
Busby had the best of the early exchanges but couldn’t quite get their passing game together.
A frustrating first half saw Busby create a few chances but failed to capitalise. Div Hayton had a great one on one chance but couldn’t decide what to do and ended up doing nothing. Johnstone had a free kick from distance touched onto the bar but in reality it was never testing Moy.
Johnstone had a few chances over the period but never really had a clear shot at goal to test Danny Moy.
The first half drew to a close with both teams not really playing to the best of their abilities and a ref who pulled every single bump or bang.
The second half was slowly started by Busby and Johnstone had a 10 minute spell but again really failed to test Moy in the Busby goal.
Busby scored thanks to a move finished by Callum Moffat. Moffat finally beat the Thistle offside trap and was through on goal. He attempted a chip which was strong enough to beat the goalie but in hindsight was not his best effort.
BUSBY 1 – JOHNSTONE THISTLE 0.
Having scored the goal Busby then sat further back and Johnstone took the game to them.
Johnstone had a shout for penalty dismissed as the ball struck Andrew Downham on the chest.
A frantic period saw them have a few half chances but none were converted.
Busby made substitutions and this disrupted the shape when Johnstone went with 3 “up top”.
Busby saw the game out but in another performance Busby could have been punished due to the lack of composure in front of goal.
