A good start to this West of Scotland Cup competition which came from a good team performance by the Busby players. A win was essential following the previous disappointing defeat in the league and the Busby 21s showed that they were determine to bounce back. The team played good football - particularly in the second half - and generated numerous chances to score the desired goals. St. Johnstone ABC took the lead but after that the Busby players raised their tempo and produced moments of enjoyable football display. However, in the first half there were moments of frustration for manager Nikos Koukos as the team struggled slightly to settle and take control of the game. Mark Gillfilan was taken off unexpectedly as he experienced discomfort over a previous groin injury and that forced the team to re-organise themselves by bringing into the game substitute Stevie Doyle in an unusual left-side role and Michael McGlynn having to move to a defensive position. Overall, every player performed well [including the substitutes who came in to freshen up the team] and captain Ross King won the MoM award, having also scored in the game after a strong individual run into the opposition's 18 yard box. After a week's absence David Fry came back to score three goals and his forward partner Nicky Green was also successful in finding the target.
Goal Scorers: David Fry 3, Nick Green 1, Ross King 1.......MoM: Ross King
