Having been knocked out the Scottish Cup with a disappointing display against St Andrews, the 19s have been frustrated at not being able to make amends in three weeks with bad weather sabotaging the league calendar. However, Saturday gave us the chance to get back to winning ways with a good win over Eastfield.
An early exit from the Scottish Cup for Busby caused mainly by the team's failure to penalise the opposition by scoring goal opportunities in the first half of the game. The Busby 21s pushed themselves and put a great effort for the last 20 minutes of the game but it was too late to overturn the goal deficit.
The main highlight of the game was the young and inexperienced referee's performance which spoiled an otherwise good game. The opposition showed strength, fast pace and movement and clearly deserved to win the game as they were able to explore the weaknesses of the Busby team. The changes in shape and tactics for Busby's 21s team proved to be a key factor in the poor way the team performed and these changes brought about disharmony and confusion.
The Under 15s produced their best performance of the season so far in a tricky league tie away to Westerton Utd. Busby dominated the entire match from start to finish but somehow found themselves 2-0 behind, with the two Westerton goals coming as a result of sloppy defending and individual errors. The scoreline however would read 3-2 in Busbys' favour at the half time interval with goals coming from Stuart Taylor and a Mark McHendry double.
Busby started this Scottish Cup match well and took a deserved lead after 20 minutes. A good spell of possession and some quality passing lead to the opener with Mark McHendry finding David Cosgrove with a through ball and the striker smashed the ball into the top corner of the net. As is too common for the under 15s they then allowed Eastwood back into the game with sloppy passing and poor defending. This lead to the equaliser before the half-time break and then again after half-time when Eastwood deservedly took a 2-1 lead.
The 19s have had a difficult start to the season, where having lost five players from last years squad we found ourselves going into the new season desperately short of players. Having made great progress last season big things were expected this year but losing so many players, including goalkeeper and vice captain, and with many others being "tapped up" throughout the summer through a variation of underhand tactics including rumours of the team folding and one player even being approached at a Busby training session, its fair to say the team endured an unsettling pre season.
An excellent result in what was a physical game at times. Busby had to compete in the first half and when we scored to make it 2-0 just before half time this gave us a cushion and we went on to score a further 3 in the2nd half. Debuts were given to Jordan Higgins ( back from livingston pro-youth) and Ross Alexander.
Scorers - Rudy Kingwaya (2), Jordan McSkeane, Kit Cummins, Gurpal Singh
Our first loss of the season against one of the strongest teams in the league. Pollok are a big strong team who get the ball forward early looking for the pacy, strong strikers. Pollok took a 2-0 lead in the first half and Jordan McSkeane scored immediately after their second goal. In the 2nd half Pollok scored again and once more we replied to make 3-2. But near the end a defensive mistake cost us the 4th goal. The boys put in a good effort but on the day just fell short.
Scorers - Jordan McSkeane, Rudy Kingwaya
A second consecutive league win against a team that we dominated from firstkick off. The half time score was 6-1 with Port Glasgow scoring in the lastminute of the half. The quality of the one touch football from Busby in thefirst half was as good as we've seen for a long time - build up from theback, linking witth midfield players and strikers - everything that thecoaches have been asking for.
Scorers - Jordan McSkeane (2), Rudy Kingwaya (3), OG, Kyle Maxwell
The first league game of the season produced an excellent result against a good West Park team from Bishopbriggs. The first half was a very even contest with our GK Michael McKinven seeing a lot of the ball but without West Park creating any clear cut chances. Just before half time Jordan McSkeane scored to give us a good lead. In the 2nd half Kit Cumming scored with a brilliant chip from 20 yards over the GK and then Busby dominated the game. Substiture Gurpal Singh scored 2 more goals before the end after some excellent link up play from several players.
